KPLC recommends their customers to use paybill numbers 888888 and 888888 for postpaid and prepaid bill payments respectively. Please use the step by step guide below to pay your electricity bill.

How to Pay KPLC Bill via M-PESA Paybill Number 888888

  1. Open Your Safaricom SIM Tool Kit
  2. Choose M-PESA
  3. Choose  Lipa na M-PESA
  4. Choose  Pay Bill
  5. Choose Enter Business no. Kenya Power Postpaid Lipa na M-PESA Paybill Number 888888 and press OK
  6. Choose Enter Account no. Kenya Power Postpaid Account Number (e.g. 37656 xxxx xxxx x) press “OK”
  7. vii. Key in  Amount and press OK
  8. viii. Key in  M-PESA PIN and press OK
  9. FOR M-PESA HAKIKISHA, You would get a notification e.g. “Pay KPLC Postpaid KSh 500.00 for Account 0100 xxxx xxxx x. To STOP this transaction send any letter or number within 25 seconds Cost: Ksh x.xx”. Pressing Cancel will complete the transaction.
  10. You will receive a confirmation SMS from M-PESA
  11. It takes up to 48 hours for KPLC to update your payment information on the account

Once the process is complete, you would receive a confirmation message after which Kenya Power company shortly sends you the tokens number for you to input in your meter.

Paying your KPLC Electricity Bill with Airtel Money (Airtel)

  1. Go to the Airtel menu on your Sim tool kit
  2. Select Airtel Money
  3. Choose  Make Payments
  4. Choose Paybill
  5. Choose Kenya Power Bill for postpaid bill OR Kenya Power Prepaid for purchase of tokens

An SMS will be sent to you to confirm the payment. However, the transaction takes 24 hours to be updated.

To check your KPLCbill, send the first part of your account number e.g. 123456 by SMS to 95551.

How to Buy Kenya Power (KPLC) Prepaid Tokens via Equitel

  1. Choose Eazzy Pay from your Equitel menu
  2. Choose Pay Bill from Eazzy Pay.
  3. Choose the bank account number to pay from e.g.0123456789102
  4. Select the business number – KPLC Tokens
  5. Enter your KPLC Prepaid Meter Number (e.g. 37168917674) press OK
  6. Enter the amount you wish to pay which should be between kShs. 100 and kShs.500, 000.
  7. Enter your Equitel PIN and press OK
  8. Confirm that all details are correct by pressing 1 OK
  9. You will receive a text confirmation of the transaction from Equity bank.

  3.  A unique code made up of numbers only, normally 20 digits long.   1. Open a new SMS message.

E-bill e-mail Service

The E-bill e-mail service enables you to check your electricity account balance and bill due date via e-mail. Here are the simple steps to follow:

  1. Open a new e-mail message.
  2. Type the first part of your account number in the subject field. For example, if your account number is 998877-01, just type 998877.
  3. Email the blank message to the bill (at) within a few minutes you will receive an automatic reply with your account balance details and payment due date.

It is important to type in the correct account number and follow the procedure of sending the message in order to get a positive response. As well note that despite the introduction of E-bill services, your detailed electricity bill will continue to be dispatched through your postal address.

Can you reverse KPLC tokens?

You can Contact KPLC via social media. You will have to share the transaction details to them and as well the correct meter number you intended to buy tokens for. KPLC representatives will then forward the details to the revenue office responsible for reversals.
